I read I can add up to 10% flax seed to my poultry feed to improve omega 3 level in the eggs. It is also good to offer a few weeks before slaughter to improve meat quality.
What I know is that pasture raised birds have a higher omega as do wild birds, venison, and pasture fed hogs, beef, etc. Since my birds are currently in winter and not on grass I want to offer a source to override the poor quality of omega in processed feed by adding supplement flax.
The grains in typical processed feeds are high in omega 6. That causes premature inflammation if off balance plus the meat or egg is of a lower quality.
So anyone out there who adds whole flax to their feed?
What I DO KNOW is that ground flax starts to oxidize quickly and become rancid as well as quickly loose the omega value.
