Anyone attach a UPS/Battery back-up to their incubator system?

I have an extra APC UPS and was going to test this, but was wondering if anyone already uses a battery backup system on their incubator?

I had one for a bit on my Rcom...I'm a geek. I admit it.

Big problem is that you have to have a sizable unit for it to be able to help very long, due to heat being so inefficient, but it'll buy you some time. What I've found over time is that the incubators will hold for hours even off, and that they can be down at room temps for hours and still have no ill effects. Mamas leave the nests for long periods sometimes. Nature is amazing.

If you leave them closed, they hold onto the heat, and the interior temp of the egg is higher than the air temp. Unless you need a full 24 hours or more, it's really not worthwhile...unless you have a big UPS hanging around your server doesn't need!

nope just a lil 600, but any time it buys is a better time compared to it sitting in the garage being bored. <hello> fellow geek

nope I have a generator as a backup. After all if the power goes out if you think your incubator will cool off a blanket can be put around it to help hold the heat. Not to worried about lack of heat in Florida. Seems most chicken owners also have other animals or pets I think having losts of fresh water ready for use is inportant. This is another thing my generator backups. Funny thing before I got the generator power would go out a lot during our storm months but with having the gen. it seems the power outage is zip. YEA I know its just a matter of time

Yes, my husband sells power conditioning equipment an I have a sizeable one that is on standby for my incubator and hatcher. We have frequent outages where I am and I got tired of losing eggs.

It is on the left.

I know this is an old thread—but I was at work today and someone came in and told me the power was out in our neighborhood—been that way for awhile. I can’t even concentrate because I’m wondering what’s going on with the eggs in the incubator. How cold is too cold? Is there a reliable back up that people use? Where do you buy such a thing?
