anyone?????crooked neck ?????

One of my araucana peeps seems to have a crooked neck.She always seemed a little slower than the other two since we got them a month ago.Now around four weeks I've noticed she is like a hunch back or something.Her head is always tilted to the side.And just isn't as active as the other two.But she eats, drinks, digs around in her box/cage, sits on the perch, peeps, and loves to be pet. When I'm doing so I can gently straighten her out and she doesn't seem to mind.But she just slumps her head back to the side when I let go. This is only my third set of of peeps in three years.So I never seen any thing like this. Anyone have an Idea???

I only have a guess, but coud it be a nutritional deficiency, especially since she started out okay, more or less? You can get water soluable vitamens and add it to the water and see if it helps, it certainly won't hurt.

Yes that is the age that vitamin deficiency/malabsorbtion issues show up in the form of limp neck/crook neck. You can buy Poly-Vi-Sol (liquid baby vitamins/supplement) at any drug store. Give her a couple of drops directly in beak and add it to her water. If it gets worse you may need to give a vitamin E capsule (cut off top and squeeze out goop so she can eat it). Ruth started with same symptoms at same age.

I'm seeing more and more posts about this issue and I'm convinced that chick feed just doesn't have everything in it (as far as vitamins) that all chicks need - of course most can survive on it but there are quiet a few who seem to develop limp neck.

@Ruth >>>minimal deficiencies from the breeder parents will show up in the chicks and also the stress to the intestines from shipping and going without feed and water the first cruciall days are also the culprit

actually if it is a shipping issue which has delayed/damaged enteral health then it will take a few weeks for the deficiency to get to the point to cause such sever neuro problems dependent on the extent of malabsorption

Did she arrive to you with a crooked neck?

I am asking because if she had the crooked neck when she arrived to you I can help you out on possiably straightening it out. I have done it before in the past with parrots that hatched out of thier eggs with a crooked neck. I have one here that is 13 yrs. old that we were able to save by straightening his neck out.

But, if it is a deficiency that has caused it I am no help on that issue.​

hard to tell if she came like that. All I know is she was smaller than the other two when we got them @ 2 days old.

Can you just use the vitamin supplement from the feed store? I just noticed one of my three week old chicks hasa crooked neck. Wondering if it's from the gamebird food I've been feeding them. People told me it was ok to feed them that but now I'm not sure.
