I am raising my first chickens (a semi-rescued EE roo) and my own two hatched (through the help of this site and a LG still air incubator) Golden Penciled Hamburgs.

They are finally growing out of that in-between stage and they are really pretty. (I will try to take pictures of them today to post.) They ARE flighty but their general look is really winning me over. They are living in an old aviary right now and it is better than a tropical fish tank to watch them.

I am just really enjoying them (and I am looking forward to their early laying of eggs) and I wondered if I was the only one here with the breed.

I have a few-they are beautiful. They're also completely nuts. I knew they would be as Hamburgs generally are.

Yes, they are nutty. I figure I can get a cuddly breed later...these are plain funny to watch. I hope their lightning speed and terror at virtually everything that moves saves them from a predator someday. I know I have a hard time catching them.

Do you free-range yours any? Mine are just 5-6 weeks old right now, but I am thinking they would like to scratch around the yard soon. They seem older I guess because they are so fast maturing.

How are the roosters in the Hamburgs...mean or just as flighty?
