Yes it sure does work, well my isa brown was broody for only 2 days. I saw some day olds and my son really wanted them, we didnt have a roo then either so the eggs she was sitting on were blanks! and she was a lovely natured hen.
Anyhow, I slipped a "guinea pig" chick in at nightfall, I placed it under her back end so she didnt see it coming in.
She lifted her head quickly as if to say "what is that" then looked down and had a little peck at the chick but nothing aggressive, the chick was super scared as she was born in an incubator. anyhow the hen nudged the chick underneath her much to the dismay of the chick who was squawking loudly, then the hen purred like a cat to settle the chick. It was the sweetest thing Ive ever seen.
I then waited a long 15 minutes before adding the rest in one by one. only 4 were added.
Sadly the mumma died 2 weeks later so I brought them up in a brooder.
RIP brownieXX
