Anyone ever make baby bed bumpers?

My great niece has asked me to make her some as part of a bedroom ensemble for her first child. Just wondering if anyone has ever made any and what you would use for the "foam" part of the bumpers and where you could get them.

Yes I have! I found the padding for it at JoAnns fabrics. Probably any big fabric store would carry it. Good luck and congrats!

Thanks!! Don't know why I didn't think to check Joann's..... I am so excited for her and thrilled that she asked me to make up the bedding for her little one. Baby is due in May, and she is fabric shopping now, so I hope to get started on some of it soon!!!

I made some for my first niece. They were the worst part of it all. Sewing that stuffing was a huge pain. My sister ended up not using them much either. They now recommend NOT using bumpers. Apparently some babies suffocate up against them.

I had heard about them recommending not to use them. I was planning on mentioning that to her when we get to the starting point on this project, but thought it would be a good idea to have information lined up if she wants to use them. Thank you!!!

Congrats! How exciting! I had my little one a year from tomorrow

We did use crib bumpers after my little one got big enough to roll around, because otherwise we would find him with a limb sticking out through the crib bars (leg). It was awful. At that point he was big enough to roll over and back, so we didn't worry as much about him getting over against them. I wouldn't use them with a new baby as he/she can't roll over and back. We have tried to remove them several times, but haven't had any luck as of yet as we always find him screaming after an hour or so with a leg stuck. I think there may be other types that have netting, but am not sure. It would be worth looking into, but we haven't as of yet as we think pretty soon his feet won't fit out through the slats!

Thanks Drafthorserider! I will definetly look into the netting option; but at first I think it would be better to be with out them also. But, you know how much young folks listen to grandma's and old aunts!!!

Oh well, I will give it my best shot, I will share your thoughts on it though, someone's experience just may help a bunch!
