Anyone ever use Grizzly Grip to line a coop with?

There are a few other brands that are similar to it. I'm thinking instead of painting or putting linoleum down, I'll just coat the floor of the coop and about 3 to 4 foot up the side walls with it. I have it in my truck bed and it's lasted many years.

I was thinking I could slope the floor of the coop to one corner, probably under the perch, and install a floor drain. The drain would be tied into 3 inch pvc pipe that I would daylight well outside my coop to prevent making a muddy mess when I spray the coop out. Once I have the drain in the floor I could just paint grizzlygrip all around it making the floor totally water proof.

Seems like it would be very easy to clean and virtually undestructable. It also comes in a few different colors. It's a little pricey, but I think the time it would save would be well worth the cost. If it lasts as long as it has in my truck... I should never have to worry about the floor again! My wood hauling truck is pushing 200k and it's been in my family since it was new. lol Everything is rusting except the bed!

My only concern would be if there were toxins in this stuff! IF I could find out if it was non- toxic to me or my birds, I might use it. Dixie

I just love how people are being so creative!
I also like this idea for the truck liner spray. I am sure it will not be toxic once it is completely dry because it is then inert.

The only thing I wonder about is the fact that it is so porous. Poop will be trapped in the pores and require a brush to clean it well. It could trap bacteria and become a den for germs. A smooth surface might make for easier clean up but the idea is GREAT!

What about the epoxy paints used for either garage floors or better still.... the 2 part epoxy paint used to resurface a tub. Available in the paint section of Lowes and Home Depot for around $20. They can also tint it various colors. I even saw a supplier of it online once that sold it in black, red and blue for instance.

They would make a super smooth porcelain like or marble like surface that would be easy to clean and disinfect. No grainy grooves to trap dirt and germs and even harder than the truck liner.

PS I used it to paint a wood cabinet a few years ago. I have not had to re paint it since. Previously it was always getting dirty finger prints and stains requiring repainting. Really made it seem laminated.

If you are one of those 'I want to be able to spray a hose around the coop so I need a drain' folks

then may I suggest that instead of a floor drain, which unless you have a way of removably capping it with something solid will tend to block up a lot, you could consider what's sometimes used for horse wash stalls. You grade the cement (or whatever) floor to a low point along one of the walls. You have a 6-12" gap in the bottom sill of that wall, there (frame over it as if it were the top of a window so there is still structural connection from one end of the wall to the other). When you do the wall, leave a low narrow hole over that gap, and construct a good-fitting weatherstripped plug or cover for it. When you get the urge to hose out the coop, open the cover of the hole and just let the water drain out (you can encourage it along with a mop or squeegee, too). The rest of the time, it behaves as a solid wall and there's nothing to clog up.​

maybe you could write the company and tell them you would like to do a test with their product on chicken/barn applications... they might even give it to you for free if you give them a review.. or recomend it for chickens (including photos of course)

We are currently in the process of building our first coop. It is a 10x10 entryway that we had built for our previous home. We are considering using garage/basement floor epoxy coating and I was wondering if anyone here had ever used it. A friend of ours who applies the stuff professionally says it will work on wood floors which was our first question.

I like the tub/sink refinishing kit idea too.

I think the gorilla grip look like a great thing in regards to it ability to stand up to a lot of use but I'm not sure how fun it would be to clean. Can you use it without the texturing? I know the basement floor epoxy comes with the chips to add. Is the gorilla grip similar where you could leave that out?

Epoxy paint would be fine, if that's what you mean -- but wear a good fume-type respirator mask. Really truly.

Hmm...

I never thought of it being too porous. It's kinda weird stuff after it dries. Maybe it's not such a good idea. lol I'll have to look into it some more. The epoxy paint seems like a much better idea.

About the drain thing...

I wouldn't be washing poo or straw down the drain. The only thing I'd want the drain for would be if I decided to disinfect the coop with a bleach solution once or twice a year. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to spray for bugs in the summer? I'd probably want to spray it out after that as well.

If I were to put a drain in it wouldn't the junk pvc kind you see in the middle of most garages. I'm thinking more in line with the industrial ones with the covers like you see in school floors. They make pvc and brass industrial drains. I have TONS of plumbing experience, about 15 years, and I know the spray anything down the drain type all too well. lol

Cigarettes have been directly responsible for some of the most disgusting jobs I've ever been called to. If you smoke, please don't flush them in the toilets or put them in the urinals!!! I'm also not a fan of garbage disposals. I can't believe some of the crap people jam in those things! haha

I could always just shopvac all the water out after I spray it too. lol

I really like the epoxy idea. Maybe I'll paint the entire coop with it!!! haha jokin...
