So with the addition of our small flock, my wife and I decided we wanted to live on as little as possible. We already forgo some of the more common luxuries, and we we are looking for ways to eliminate more. We found some farms in the area that will trade milk for eggs and there are plenty of co ops here in Texas. I'm just curious if anyone else lives like this and might have any pointers.

My DH and I have been doing this for some time now, due to the rise in prices mostly. And partly because we enjoy living debt-free

At the moment our monthly expenses equals most people's monthly car payments. And we don't NEED more than what we've got. We eat lots of meat, 'cause we raise and slaughter our own, we eat lots of fresh, organic veg and fruit from our garden. We keep enough chickens to have plenty eggs for us and enough to sell to cover their food and make a profit. We walk as much as possible, as apposed to driving. We make our own fire wood and cook with that as well as electricity. We also shop in secondhand shops for things like clothes and such.

Basically we learned the difference between what we really need and what we want. When it boils down to that, it's surprising how little you can get by on!
