Anyone have a roosting poll in the run?

I slapped something together. The roof on my run is only about 4 1/2 ft tall but they seem to love it. No they don't sleep up there. They hang out up there throughout the day. I don't know what it is about a chicken but they love getting off the ground once in a while. Maybe it makes them feel safer.

As Great as the weather is here in Florida I have all of my roosts in the run. The coop is for egg laying only (that is when they decide to start laying lol). I have approximately 50 chickens in the run/coop and they all seem to be happy. My chickens sleep on the roosts in the run as well. So depending on your weather I see no issue with it.

This is the roost in my 12x24 run. All my laying hens have actually been locked out of the coop since the 2nd week in April. The run stays cooler and has better ventilation for summer, so that is where they sleep at night and where they lay eggs, too. I move the nest boxes out of the coop into the run. My hens free range from dawn to dusk, so they are only in the run at night...

In the early morning my girl camp out on the perch after they had breakfast. Most of the day is spent on the ground scratching or begging for treats. They love a fresh pile of hay to dig around in.

I'm still working on my coop that the wee babes moved into last week. Today I made them a swing and hung up a small roost. I'd like to add a little platform and larger roost, but that will come in time (I also have to at least double my run space, so once that happens it'll be easier.) :)

I used a pocket hole jig and made these roosts out of 2x4's. They love them.

Nothing fancy, but I have a large oak branch (highest point is about a foot off the ground) & a few logs for them to sit on during the day. They also seem to enjoy digging holes UNDER the logs for dust baths! lol.

My run has two sections.. one elevated and covered and the other on the ground. I used driftwood to make a roost pole and a swing in the upper run. My run is not quite finished yet but the girls are enjoying the dust bath I just put together for them this morning. :D
