Once one of the chicks (of any batch I've raised) learned how to get on the waterer, it became a "Queen of the Mountain" spot for them all.
It's one reason why I use nipple waterers that hang. No poop gets into their water any more.
So the next height for them to try for is the edge of the brooder. I love encouraging them. When they all get that little technique learned, it's SO cute to see a row of chicks perched on the edge of the brooder, waiting for me to come see them. (My bathroom is the Nursery with the brooder - it's tile and easy to clean up once the chicks figure out how to jump down out of the brooder.)
Then the next fun moment is when I open the bathroom door to discover a chick or two in the middle of the bath mat, and they look at me like, "Whut? We wuz just investigating the place!" Sometimes there's "evidence" of chick on the toilet seat, or I catch one on the counter looking at her reflection in the chrome faucet.
