Anyone have any good ideas about how to kick start a goose?

My fil said to feed them cat food.... my dh said to leave them alone. That is impossible. I have had them 3 months now and not a single egg( that I have found, there is room for error) She had supposedly quit laying before I bought her and her hubby. But the people had about 6 other pairs in a large area. So I can't help but think that she may had changed spots. i would think she would be over the stress of being moved. Who knows though. I would like her to start back before it is too late though!

They will NOT lay until next Feb or March no matter what you do. Geese are seasonal layers, not like chickens. Geese start laying in Feb or so and quit about June for the year- it is genetically and hormonally ingrained in their DNA. Your geese are completely normal. If you move a female from her nest area as in going to a new home it can easily knock her out for the rest of the season. You got her halfway through the season and I have had chickens go several months once moved before they decided to lay. By the time she got comfortable enough to lay, laying time was over with.

I agree, laying season is about over..

I have one toulouse who is still laying an egg a day.. I am shocked !!

we are setting every egg in the incubator.. Just in case this is genetic.. I wouldn't mind a strain of long layers..

the other five quit laying weeks ago.

Well, darn it! I guess it is already too late then. Now I have to feed their annoying butts for nearly a year before she'll lay again. I was hoping she might have a second setting like a duck.

Yep, and nope....
Ducks will lay all summer.
Sorry. Your geese should be eating grass and weeds more than anything else? Mine don't eat any grain. They love greens!

AWESOME idea. That girl has no business laying this late...breed the crap out of her...LOL

with 6 ganders out there and 5 other geese not laying, I do not have to worry about her getting bred.. geese are not as monogamous as people think..
