I get pears for free in the summer from a neighbor of mine and while I generally don't like pears, these are absolutely fabulous. They are small and red and soooooooooo delicious! Does anyone have some good recipes that I could use for these type of pears? I would like to can them if possible and use them all winter. I am thinking pear butter, but what else can I do? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I used to have a pear tree. I loved them peeled and sliced and cooked down with brown sugar and butter.. yes lots of calories, but de-lish.

Peel, slice fairly thin about 1/8 to 1/4 inch slices. put in a skillet over medium low heat with a little bit of water. When they start to soften a little add the brown sugar and butter. I think I used to put about 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 stick of butter.

I kind of made it up as I went along so you may have to play with the ratio a little. Think of it like fried apples.

Oh slice them in half, lay them in a buttered baking dish cut side down. Heat 2 cups of apple juice on the stove stirring constantly and mix in 1 tsp of ground ginger 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon. When it reaches a slow boil remove from heat and pout over the pers. Bake them at 350 degrees for 25 - 45 mins until they are soft baked to your liking. serve with ice cream and they are awesome too.

I make pear bread, I don't have the recipe with me (I'm at work) if you would like I will post it. Just let me know.
