Hi, everyone. I'm nrw here but have been lurking a long time. My question is....does anybody have pheasants laying now. I live in South Central Texas. Last year i had two black melanistic pheasants start laying in November and just quit this September. I now have some Idaho ringnecks starting to lay. They are not under artificial light and both this years hatch and my breeders are displaying. They recieve 24% gamebird crumbles, some mixed grains and fresh hand picked greens daily. Can't figure this one out? Any ideas?

My Ringneck have been laying for the past 6 weeks. I read that they normally lay beginning in March to May. I've been hatching since I have brooder space.
I'm feeling game bird crumbles and pulling greenery from the garden. Also offering a cup of scratch a day for the nine birds in the pen.

Thanks NanaKat, i was hoping im not the only one with weird birds! Been raising quail, pheasants, ducks, geese and turkeys for 40 years but this is the first time this has happened. Last year, my Goldens and Amherst were displaying in October but no laying, only the melanistics and they were only 6 months old. This year the ringnecks are 8 months old. All my male birds are displaying, even the young ones.....guess the weather here has something to do with it....or maybe it's like deer and the amount of light that hits their eyes makes them go into breeding mode. Maybe someone else can chime in on this weirdness.

@007Sean I'm going to agree with the weather suggestion. I mentioned the egg laying on the Pheasant thread and no one really commented. We are in Central Oklahoma and this fall has been like an early spring...even the fruit trees and blackberries have been blooming until the recent frost. My little flock is 8 months old now. I'm getting about 12 - 15 eggs a week. with about half of those hatching. They have an inside coop right now.
