I just moved my computer from one room to another. I originally had it in this room and everything worked great.
Well now the internet wont hardly connect in here. After I got it set up yesterday at about 4:30 pm the dsl kept going on and off on and off. At first it was every few minutes then every few seconds.

I was on the phone with a tech guy (who very oddly sounded like Burt from the burt show on Q100) and he said 'Oh its the wall jacks fault. You, and Im not a sales guy, should add the tech support feature for $5.99 extra a month and have them come out and look at it. Or you can go wireless' (Which by the way is $100 with a $50 mail-in-rebate )

Seeing that I havent had anything plugged in that wall and a couch in front of it, I dont think its the wall jack. So I go to unscrew it and take a look. Nothing wrong. My SO takes a look.. Nothing wrong.

I fiddle with it a little while longer.. No new results. Well this morning I fiddle with it some more and call windstream back. They tell me that 'Oh well some numbers of yours have been low for about 2 weeks now. You should buy a new filter. 3 for $8.99'

About 30 mins after hanging up with her my internet stays connected all day... Up until about 4:30 PM this afternoon. Yesterday when I was poking around the internet (what I could manage) on what could be the problem I was reading a lot of peoples internet stops working at a certain time then is back up and running at the same time every day.

Im not paying for someone to come out here unless it is absolutely necessary.

Anyone have any idea whats going on? It wont be long here till I cant even refresh a page without it disconnecting.

I'm trying to remember what we do when we have that problem. We've had lots of problems since we got DSL. Have you tried using a pen to press the reset button on the back of the modem? Hold the pen in the hole until all the lights flash on the front of the modem, release it, then wait until the lights are flashing or on normally.
If that doesn't work, try unplugging the modem from the phone jack and the wall outlet. Wait 30 seconds and plug it all back in. We also removed the filter that we had on the phone line that only the modem uses - no phone hooked up to that jack. The tech. told us it wasn't necessary.

Sorry if my answers are short. I dont have much time before Im disconnected..

Ive tried all that. Its weird that it will only work while the filter is on and with an outside phone line coming in plugged into the filter.

Im having the SO pick up a filter from wally world to see if it wont work

That may work. The filters do go bad we've found, as do the modems.

Unplug every phone and device in the house. Only plug in your modem. That will rule out filters or other devices causing problems.

Check where your phone wire comes into your house too. Make sure everything is clean and well connected.

The single filter didnt work...

I need a double filter because it has to have the line coming from the outside in order to work..
I have a buddy that works for comcast..
I guess I could have him look at it?
