Anyone in HUMAN Medical Field?? Fifths Disease**(PICS of kids)**

Sorry I havent replied! I've been outside doing chicken 'shutdown' for the night!

As far as texture goes, you can feel it....but I would'nt call it sandpaper. Just feels.........not smooth....

And it definately gets much redder when they have been outside or in the shower. I feel certain now that it is Fifths. I just hate to run to the doctor for every little thing. We live 25-30 minutes from town, and I knew if it WAS Fifths, that from here on out it should be gradually going away, and there woulnd't really be anything they would, or could do for them anyway.

Thanks for all the replies!!

We had fifths disease run wild through our school this last spring. It does look like fifths to me. Did they run a slight fever a day or two before the rash. Usually with fifths in children they do.

Honestly, (And I have been racking my brain) if they had a fever, I never knew it and they never let on that something was amiss. Aside from the recollection in my earlier post about Lane having a red face......but, in my own defense, it is 90+ degrees outside, and they are 11 & 9! There isn't a whole lot of downtime with these 2!

I DO remember back last week, Mac came in and laid in his bed for a couple of hours watching TV. He said he didn't feel good, but I just figured his brother was picking at him and he'd had enough!!!

Was there a fever?? Beats me! But its kind of nice that they are big enough now, that if they DO run a fever, its completely ignored! Thank the Lord for Hysterectomies.

I don't remember reading about any treatment......except to keep them away from pregnant women. I think its one of those things that runs its course. Thanks......they feel great! Still getting in trouble and fighting with each other......

I worked at a pre-school a few years ago and I got fifths disease. The kids can get it easier than adults. That rash does look like fifths. For adults it can last a few weeks up until a couple of months. It makes your joints swell and ache. I had to have my wedding band CUT off. The doctor wasn't sure what it was at first and he started doing tests for rhumetoid arthritis. then we put a few facts together and figured it all out. I had sore joints for two months. The swelling went away after 3 weeks or so. Leave it to me to get a kids disease!!

Same thing happened to me, Mainchick. I could barely walk down the stairs or close my fist up. My kids got it and then I did, lol.

I have to say, I thought it looked like "scarlett fever" (strep) when I saw the pics on here.

My husband and I have had it too and it was the worst thing I've ever had. I couldn't use my hands for almost 3 months they were so crippled with pain and swelling. My husband was in Italy at the time when he caught it, ran a very high fever and then the aching joints. He barely made it home.

It's a miserable thing and it hits adults very quickly so take care if it really is Fifths disease!
