I would love to raise my own chickens for meat but can no longer process my own. Does anyone know of a processor in the Modesto area that will do 50-100 birds at a time?

I started this by looking in my immediate area...how about the great Sac area?

Just bringing this back up to the top. I really would love to find a processor...I've called all my butcher folks and they don't even have names for me. Am I just destined to eat those factory raised chickens from the grocery?

Too bad you aren't closer to me, I would do it for you. Finding a processor for chickens is pretty much impossible here. I hope you find someone who can help!

Yes, its been difficult to find anyone here. I have found one for next year, I think. But that isn't this year! I'm certainly not hesitant to do my own, but I have a degenerative disc in my lumbar area and arthritis on top of it. Too painful to be on my feet that long. Thanks for the thought, though. I'm hoping someone up here will come out of hiding...lol

Modesto has a very active ag extension office. Call and ask for the numbers of the 4-H chicken project leaders, at least one of them should be able to tell you where to go.

I hadn't thought of the ag extension office. Great idea! I have called all the butcher facilities and they all had the same story. I did find one small processor but even he said there are no certified processors (other than himself) in the area. I'm guessing my next best hope is to find an individual that does it. I just want to be sure its as sanitary as it can be...if ya know what I mean!! LOL Thanks. Will give the ag extension a call!

Someone told me they got some birds done at Modesto JC. Have you checked with their Ag department?

And our 4-H leader takes his to a place in Clovis. I don't know where exactly, but I can try to find out for you, if you'd like.

If you only have a couple, I'm doing a workshop for 4-H tentatively on May 7th in Atwater, and you're welcome to join us.

JC no longer does them. I would happily travel to Clovis if there was a place there, thats a pretty easy drive too. I don't have any right now, but want to get my chicks in a row before I get them!!

I have called all over. Just no one doing it in this area and no one knows who to call. Its been an eye-opener.
