Hi, all!

In 2011, we would like to start saving money on our chickens. One thing we were thinking about was planting a crop that would feed the chickens. What can we plant in our backyard that would drop seeds and that the chickens could run in and eat from it?

Thanks!

Illinois everbearing Mulberry trees, (see my BYC) You can can different varieties of fruit trees in the run to stagger the food dropping from spring to fall. Planting in an established run with chickens can be done with cages around the plants. I do this with tomatoes every year, I plant surplus seedlings in the run to have the tomatoes grow up into a trellis and drop fruit to the chickens.
