I was gonna say New Hampshire Red or Production Red but he does look gamey unless he's mal-nutrition, no offenceHe's a gamey looking guy! Other than that, I'm no good, sorry.
No offense taken. He eats well and appears healthy. When we got him at 10 weeks old he was bald and his eye was swollen shut from fighting with another rooster. He was hatched by a free range hen and had only free ranged with his mother. Is there a chance that he might have some Welsummer? The guy who gave him to my husband inherited his flock when he bought a farm and has no idea what he has but thought one of his roosters was a Welsummer,I was gonna say New Hampshire Red or Production Red but he does look gamey unless he's mal-nutrition, no offence![]()
Thanks, I have never seen a Welsummer except a hen, so I really didn't have any idea what to look for. Do game birds make good backyard chickens? We can't let him free range like the farm he came from did. So far he is people friendly and gets along with the pullets, though they actually attack him sometimes and he usually runs away. We are not interested in hatching eggs and really just wanted to give him a home where he would not be beaten up by the other roos.I really don't see any Welsummer there. He's to long and lean, rangy built. Welsummers aren't built that way.
