I've been buying goat milk soap online for awhile since I can't use regular soap and since it's rather expensive I thought I'd take a shot at making my own. There's a local goat farmer that says she will sell me her discard goat milk for cheap but I wanted to know if there was anyone that could give me pointers on making goat's milk soap so I don't end up ruining batches and wasting materials.

I'd rather know what goes in my soap anyway and I'd like to make different flavors. :)

So any tips or advice would be welcome.

There is a soap makers thread in the Hobbies section that most of the soapmakers on BYC read. Anyway, milk soap of any kind is much harder than normal soap. I would recommend that you start out making normal soap until you get fairly comfortable with it. As to flavors, MMS is my favorite suppler. Check out http://www.thesage.com/catalog/FragranceOils.html Scents from Acai and Mangosteen, to Wild Mint & Ivy, and everything in between. I just got finished making a batch of Apricot Freesia. Mummmm!

I make my own soap mainly using the crock pot method. When using milk you need to freeze it until it's slush or it will curdle from the lies heat. You add the milk to replace the water. An electric hand blender speeds the soap making process, crockpot method makes rustic looking soap, the cold a smooth bar, crockpot is way easier, you don't need to measure temps and the cure time is reduced.

Hi! I just started making soap last Oct and jumped right in with Goat Milk soap on the first batch.
It turned out FABULOUS and everyone loves it. Every thing you need to get started is in that thread linked above. It's worth reading start to finish.
Good luck!
