I'm shopping now for my spring chicks and was wondering how the breed Dominiques are..

Are they winter hardy?
Are they docile?
Would they be good dual purpose?
Are they good egg producers?
What size eggs?

Any imput would be appreciated.......

Oooohh me! ME!

I LOVE MY DOMINIQUES!!!

They are VERY winter hardy...mine our outside in an unheated coop...I'm in Canada. It's -16C right now
They are beautifully tempered birds. I can handle ours easily. They come right up to me when I go outside
THey are excellent for both meat and eggs. Our girls are laying a large sized egg (with an occasional smaller, and/or LARGER) almost daily even in the dead of winter. We processed the extra roos last year and they were well breasted, nice sized birds.

Our Dominiques may be our favorite birds. The other birds that we have that meet all of your qualifications are Chanteclers.

Feel free to pm me with any questions! I love these birds.

Are they winter hardy? Yes. Egg prodution shuts down when cold stressed.
Are they docile? Very docile but vary somewhat based on strain.
Would they be good dual purpose? Yes.
Are they good egg producers? Average 150 to 200 eggs per year but do it for multiple years
What size eggs? Medium
