We were having a family discusion tonight. Ben Franklin is my DH's 5th great grandfather. Benjamin's daughter Sarah, married Richard Bache. I married into the Bache family. Most of the men on that side of the family have Franklin in their names. Mostly middle names, including my FIL, DH and my son. Anywho, was just wondering if anyone else is related to Ben Franklin. Maybe some of you northeners?

Not related, although I have been told to go fly a kite.

I think Benjamin Franklin was one of the coolest dudes in those days. He was inventive, (doh, we all know that) had from what i've read, liked to take "air baths" in his birthday suit in front of open windows to cleanse himself. In those days, he was WAY ahead of his time. Closed doors and windows, wearing tons of fabric and people who didn't bathe (with water) in those days must have had a major FUNK going on. And he knew that.

One of my favourites from those days.....

Yes and apparently he was quite the womanizer. He had many children and only 2 were ligitimate. One was his daughter Sarah, the other was son Richard. Opps, actually I don't know the name of his son.

) but I've not found anyone significant in my family tree from the founding of this country, other than those who served in the various wars and such.

My husband, however, is a descendant of Captain Thomas Boyle, a War of 1812 hero whose daring actions in his clipper ship, The Chasseur, earned it the nickname, "The Pride of Baltimore." He and other privateers sailed out of Baltimore and caused such a pain for the English during their blockade of the coast. The English retaliated by trying to attack Baltimore Harbor after they had burned Washington DC. The American's fought back at Fort McHenry, which was witnessed by Francis Scott Key who then wrote what became our national anthem.

Soooo, in a very roundabout way, he's partly responsible for The Star Spangled Banner.

Funny thing is. . . I LOVE history (am currently reading 1776) but hubby isn't all that interested (tho he'd probably be thrilled to be related to someone like Thomas Jefferson), even though he has a far more interesting history than I do.

Nope.

I am told that my mother is the 5th cousin of Mary Todd Lincoln and my father was the 6th cousin of Abraham Lincoln.

There's also a couple of other famous people we are related to including the guys that duelled and killed each other Burr and...

Don't know. Sometimes my mom gets her facts a little mixed up.
