Hi Guys,
I'm finally back!!! Actually, I got back last night, but didn't have time to post anything.
The FFA show went well. My daughter placed 3rd in her Market Beef class, which isn't too bad. It was a very long week with very long hours, but well worth the experience, as usual.
Now for the hatch news - - -
We have 11 living chicks right now. We had 12, but one was born with obvious developmental problems and it hadn't absorbed it's yolk properly. She gave it a valiant effort, but just wasn't strong enough to make it. One of the 11 living chicks is small and not nearly as coordinated as the rest, but she seems to be a little better today. I picked up some vitamins this evening, so I'm going to give her some for the next week or so and see what happens.
We didn't have any Cuckoo Marans hatch - very disappointing. Only 2 of the Welsommers hatched and one of them is the small one - again, very disappointing. We had 4 Blue/Splash Ameraucana's hatch and one of them was the one that died. Then we had 7 of our own eggs hatch. The hatch rate on our eggs was much better than on the shipped eggs. I'm sure that is because they had to go through shipping. Overall, I think the hatch went well considering it was my first time using an incubator. Now I'm ready to try some more Welsummers and Cuckoo Marans!!!!!!
I will post pics probably tomorrow. I am having trouble getting my pics into Photobucket and I'm too tired right now to fiddle with it anymore.
Donna Sue, how are your little ones doing? I'm envious that you got to watch yours hatch!!! I love the picture you posted - so adorable!!
Susan, how about your little ones? Everybody still healthy? I was using a Hovabator and to get the humidity up I filled both reservoirs in the bottom and put in 2 very wet washclothes. The humidity stayed at about 75%. I did the dry incubation and only put water in during the last 3 days.
I'll try to get pics on her tomorrow night.
