Anyone that has raised Dominiques for meat?

I haven't raised Dominique's for meat, but have raised other "dual" purpose breeds.

They will not be like your store chicken and be leaner. Often they will also be tougher so you will have to age longer in the fridge. They also have more "chicken" flavor, but that is probably due to age. Cornish x meat birds are 8 weeks old when butchered. They will take about 4 months to reach a reasonable weight for meat, and they can be free ranged.

Thank You. Yeah, I should have titled it "Anyone that has eaten Dominique meat".

I ordered 12 straight-run chicks from Ideal and I want as many laying hens as I can get and 1 or 2 roosters (for fun and to breed more), the rest will be separated and sold or processed. So I am not really raising them for meat but I am going to try one.

I am new to chickens. Since I posted this I have read more posts on dual purpose birds. I think they will be fine for us. When we buy a whole bird from the store we usually make stock and then use it for soups, dumplings, enchiladas, etc.

We do eat bbq breast meat, my husband love thick breast meat. That is my least favorite way to eat chicken but I think I might try the raising the Cornish X or Freedom Rangers for meat.

My daughter wants Buff Orpingtons. We will order pullets for pets and won't eat them, only their eggs.

I love this site, so much information!!!
