I have some pekin eggs 22, due to hatch on 22 April candled today and 21 fertile,,,,,, but I'm worried I have not turned enough in the first few days and have ruined them,,,,, they all have the air cells but then seem to be empty down one side is that normal or is it a sign that I have messed up,,,,if so is there anything I can do to help or correct this,,, feeling very very cross with myself right now :-( can see the embryo actually moving in quite a few so gutted to think that I've ruined their chances,,,, any ideas people? X

When you candle them do you only see development on one side of the egg? And one side is clear. That's normal

I incubated and hatched some Pekin duck eggs last month and I got quite a surprise when I candled and saw that. I continued candling every other day and saw the embryo and the development spread around the egg until it filled it completely. It was quite interesting to see. Good luck with your hatch!

Yes it's like it's clear one side,,,,, and all the eggs are same, oh gosh do you think?? Wow I hope so have been so upset thinking I've messed up, I was Dubois as to if the eggs were fertile and then I borrowed this inc as couldn't find the base to mine so was all very last minute so I guess I didn't feel hopefull a out them so didn't turn them religiously ,,, oh I do hope that's ok, I've been doing searches and found some bad egg photos and mine don't look like any of them x

Yeah, I was a bit worried too when I saw that. I candled on day 7/8 and there was this strange looking development down one side of the egg, ruler straight, and the the rest of the egg was completely clear. They were not my eggs, I was incubating them as a favour for someone. It was interesting to see how they developed after that though

Rubbish photos,,,, but first photo shows the whole side is veined and shows the embryo which moves,,,, the next photo shows when I've turned it 45 degrees so side on from the front view,,,,, does that look normal all of them are like this? Have only ever hatched Chinese painted quail before x

I was just about to ask you how far along they are. They look great

Candle again on day 10-11 and again on day 16-17 and so on. You'll see how it fold around the egg and fills it. Duck eggs are great fun to candle.
