I have problems with ammonia build up. I give my coop a thorough disinfection in the spring. But if I don't change the litter entirely every two weeks (or less in warm weather) the air quality fades with the ammonia small which I understand can cause respiratory problems in chickens and humans. I have heard some people use barn lime applied under the wood shavings to help keep the ammonia from forming. Has anyone used this and if so, how thick do you apply it under the shavings?
