Just an avid fisherman. Although I do have an aquarium...

Do you fly fish? Tie your own flies?
Many of the feathers used to tie flies come from roosters that have special genetics to give their feathers the long, soft qualities that are needed to make good flies.
(looking for a way to tie your interests together)

I do fly fish and tie my own flies lots of caddis made from deer hides. I use some of my pheasant feathers.

My newest birds are a genetic hackle breed from a breeder who sells "capes" for tying flies. The rooster is gorgeous and I'm very excited to have them. I thought of them immediately when you said you were an angler. I think even "normal" roos produce some feathers that are usable for tying flies. If you pull some feathers and the roo complains, just remind him of the alternative and be glad he wasn't the deer who's fur you are using.
