I have 2 Araucana chicks that hatched out the the 13th with some 55 Flowery Hens. One of the Araucanas is the same size as when it hatched. It is crying ALL the time. It's little bum isn't right. I clean it an put ointment on it daily. I give it antibiotics and probiotics with honey water. Aside from chick feed, I also feed it (by hand with a syringe) egg yolk, wet cat food, coconut oil.

My hubs says it's chirping all the time because it wanted to die a week ago and I won't let it.

What else can I do?!

*the lighter chick is the other araucana.

I hatched it out. I'd say that day 2 was when it's backside became red and swollen. I started the ointment right away. Antibiotics were a couple of days later. That took care of the swelling and redness. It hatched out small and was dragging it's shell around in the incubator for a while.

It did the first couple of days. It would do a weird wiggle dance to poo. The other araucana did that as well. Maybe the next could of days it was looking really rough. I started making it eat/drink with the syringe. The next morning, it was all happy chirpy again. And then it wasn't....

Also, I spent a LOT on the eggs+shipping. I'm not planning to breed or have it be a show chicken. I wanted the friendly, quirky personality. I couldn't let it, or any other creature, die if all it needed was TLC. And YES, I am the crazy lady who rescues plants from the Lowe's clearance rack.

It may be chirping because it's in pain. I wonder if its cloaca is slightly prolapsed. Can you get a close-up pic of its vent? What kind of ointment are you using?

I mistyped the hatch date. It was on 10/3, not 13.

He just ate (the jelly part only) off a spoon. It looks like a male to me, with those grumpy eyes....

Daily, he gets a warm soak in salinated water. Then a schmear of triple antibiotic ointment and mometasone.

The yellow on him is crusty ointment/skin, not poop.

He also has this hard...belly button-ish thing.... purple arrow.
