Hello,
I am brand new to this forum. I have been reading and leaning new things every day. This is a very knowledgeable group and I am so glad I found you.

We plan to be moving to N.E. TN (Greeneville area ) next year, and want to raise lowline cattle, goats, and CHICKENS. We have 20.5 acres and can't wait to get started using the land like it was intended.

I have a question about chicken breeds. Can someone please tell me the difference between an Araucana, an Americana, and an EE? I want to raise full size chickens for their colorful blue/green eggs, but became confused after reading about these breeds. They appear to be very similar - but how are they different ?
Thank you.

Araucana was the original. They came from South America.

Ameraucana is a breed created in the U.S. from descendants of Araucana stock.

EEs aren't an official breed. Any bird that has the blue/green egg gene, but doesn't fit the qualifications for either of the official breeds, is called an EE.

This discussion has occurred dozens on times here in the past couple years. I suggest everybody see this thread. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14537
SpeckledHen knows what she's talking about.

I hope no one else responds to this thread because I just can't stand to see this topic hashed out again. Aggghhhhh. (And I don't even have any of those breeds.)

EDITED TO SAY: Um, pardon my grumpiness. Welcome to BYC. I promise to be nicer from now on.
