We were given some hatching eggs by a young man who told us that they were from his grandfather's flock of Araucanas.

We've never seen the chickens, but couldn't resist the temptation to see what we might discover when they hatched.

Well, we got 7 or 8 chicks of assorted colors, some blue/grey with dark grey almost black legs, and some yellow with bits of grey or brown in them. These have flesh colored legs.

Some of the chicks have little tufts of feathers growing out of the legs, some are clean legged, and others might have just one little feather sticking out of the leg.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? I'm writing from work right now, but will try to post pics tomorrow when I'm home.

Well, that's what I suspect; that they are actually EEs.

The eggs we got from him were an assortment of blues, greens, pinkish to a grey color.
Hmmm, maybe that in itself says easter eggs. DUH!!

Of course the guy figured that they were Araucanas, an since I've never seen his grandfathers hens, who was I to argue.

Yes, I'm sure that's the case.
Although I don't know where he obtained them from as the hens that laid the eggs were older hens, so he's had them for a few years.
I doesn't really matter, I guess, it's just that I want to be knowledgable about what I've got so when it comes time to sell off some stock, I don't pass on inaccurate information.

I got the eggs free of charge, so I can't exactly whine too much.

Egg color was a pretty good give away

. Ameraucanas and Araucanas only lay blue eggs and what else lays green/pink.
