Arctic blast -- unheated uninsulated barn coop

Beware of wet food in very cold weather. Mash can freeze solid very quickly, and not be eaten.

I really don't worry about drafts in the day time. However, I do have shelters outside, where a bird can get out of the prevailing wind.

I would open the OP's door, to let the sunlight in. I think the light is important for chickens, (and important for me) during the day time. Letting chickens choose if they want out or in works for my birds.

True about the wet feed freezing - especially in these temps! I make just enough and stand there as they eat it- it goes fast-IF there is anything left I take it out before it gets rock hard. I'm surprised how fast they eat their regular food--mushed with a bit of water! I sleep better knowing their crops are more full before the coop is closed for the night in the subzero temps.

We had a high of -11 F today, and its windy. I have chickens hanging out in the run enjoying the sunshine. Are they thrilled with this crap? No. But they're handling it like troopers.
We're going to have slightly warmer temps and calmer wind with sun so I think we'll try opening their pop door! Thanks!
