are 4 week old chicks too young for mite treatment?

I am moving my 4 week old chicks to the coup this week. I wanted to clean & treat the coup for mites before I do this. Should I wait, after treatment of coup, to move them?

I use DE regularly, but had a problem with mites somes months ago . A sparrow got in the coup & decided it was a great place to spend the winter. I used poutry dust that I got from the farm vet.


I don't want to use anything that may harm my babies.

DE may knock off a few of them but is not effective against an infestation. Nothing is totally safe, but the lice and mites will eventually kill the chickens, too -- and DE is rough on lungs. I would use the poultry dust on the chicks, carefully. I would get 5% Sevin garden dust for the coop, myself.
