I have true Ameraucanas. I just got them from any breeder two weeks ago. They are starting to lay wonderful light blue eggs. I know several people with EE and their eggs are more green looking. Colored eggs are wonderful no matter if they come from EE or Ameraucanas.
I have bought all my chickens from a family that raises POL (point of lay) or starter pullets. I knew they were all mixed breeds -barred rock, RIR and EEr's but told Ameracauna. I bought 12 pullets and 1 RIR & black silkie mix cockeral ... beautiful! As I waited for them to start laying you will not believe who layed the first green egg! MY Barred Rock pullet I just KNEW she would lay a brown egg but no, it was green. She looks just like a BR but has muffs and a beard and lays a daily green egg.
Joy! All the EEr's looking pullets are all laying very light brown to a creamy colored egg.
Sad!
I will look at the link just mentioned for a good breeder.
I have 2 "Ameracaunas" from a feed store and the first of them started laying cream colored eggs.
We were so looking forward to the green eggs. Maybe the other will lay green eggs. I guess they are EE's according to the eggs and what I am reading in this thread. That is disappointing.
While EE's can lay brown eggs, it seems that the vast majority of them do lay green eggs. I would be willing to bet that your new ones will. Good luck.
