Hello, I have heard some people say that chickens are allowed meat scraps and I've also heard that they are not allowed to eat meat, can someone help me? I'm quite new to chickens haha:)

I feed meat scrapes occasionally. Chickens eat worms, flies, and other insects. I've seen them grab and devour baby mice when the mouse's nest was dug up. No salts, sugars, and spices.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I don't personally feed my chickens meat scraps, but as long as the meat is well cooked, I doubt there's any harm in it. I would avoid feeding them raw meat however as you don't want to risk them getting a taste for cannibalism. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Mine love a good gecko!

Chickens are omnivores, they'll eat meat as well as plant based products. Here's a link to the treat chart in the Learning Center:

Hope you're enjoying your flock!

Chickens will certainly eat meat but a good rule of thumb to remember is to not feed them more treats than they can eat in about a 10-15 minute time period.

Oh yes Chickens will eat meat - some people like to give them the turkey carcass and they will clean it off to the bone.

Welcome to BYC! And of course chickens are omnivores! Preferably boiled meat and don't forget don't feed more than a chicken can't readily eat up unless you clean up leftovers, don't want no bugs getting in it and into your birds!
