I've noticed that our wyandottes are much more particular about trying new foods. Or buff Orps & barred rocks, however, will try whatever I put in there. We've had them since they were chicks, and they have always been pastured. We got the wyandottes when they were about a year old, and it took them a long time to get used to foraging. I just put some plain yogurt out mixed with feed, and the BOs & BPRs went at it right away. The SLWs are still just nosing around, not willing to even try it. I was wondering if it was like with kids, where they can become very particular if you don't feed them a wide range of foods early on.

Chickens are chicken and afraid of new things. I have one hen that is almost two years old and she still doesn't come to me for treats, even when all the others are going crazy for what I have. If I toss something to her she will eat it, but she has yet to come up to me for a treat.

Interesting. No, I've never experienced this. I have however had different flocks with different personalities within the flock itself (like the flock as a whole). Maybe that's it...your Wyandottes are food-finicky chickens, and the rest are just cool with whatever.
