I have a silly question that I just have to ask.....

If I have 2 different breed of roosters in with my hens and I have seen both of them breeding the same hen.
Are chickens like Cats and some of the eggs will be one cross and some of them the other cross?? because of the two different dads? Or do they mix together??

For example:

Light Sussex Roo
Dominique Roo

Two totally different looking roos, both mate the same buff orpington hen, does one cancel the other out or do they just mix together?

Thanks!

Not silly at all. One of the roosters will fertilize one egg, so the chick will either be from the Sussex or the Dominique, but the egg she lays the nest day may or may not be fertilized by the other rooster. One chick will not be a Sussex/Dominique/Orpington cross. It will be either Sussex/Orpington or Dominique/Orpington.

Hens store the sperm of the rooster, and it will store for up to 4 weeks max. So in that time, different parents can mix in there, but you cannot have a chick hatch from two dads.

one chick cant hatch from two roosters, but haveing the brood be mixed is possible, but the roosters might fight if their territorial so watch out for that

Hahaha I can't believe I wrote that! Of course two roos can't be the dad of one chick

I love learning new things about my chickens, they are so much fun!

So for example...the one hen lays 6 eggs and half of them could be one Roos and the other half the others...so I guess they are like cats! Interesting!!!
