They don't sound like they could be very good for them, but we have a few (no one in our family really likes them) and I was wondering if the chickens would like them at all. Would it hurt to try? I don't want to give them to them if they're going to get sick!

I can think of one thing that might not be good for them in the pickles, the salt. Check the sodium content.

Cucumber, salt, vinegar ... I can't think of anything in a pickle that would be poisonous to a chicken. OTOH, chickens should not have large quantities of salt, so moderation is in order. A pickle between a bunch of birds (if they even eat it) is probably OK, getting rid of the whole jar in one shot might not be such a good idea.

Thanks, guys! I'm going to take one or two out and see what they think of them.

Well, wait a second – I just checked dill pickles on a nutritional data website and the said 569mg in one 65g piece. (That's between a large pickle 4" long, 135g, and a small pickle, 37g). Is that too salty?

ETA: Um, our dill pickle jar (the dill pickles didn't actually come from this jar – they were given to us by a friend), says that three pickles (a serving, 28g) is only 290mg of sodium. ???
