Do they fly well, are they alert, are they suitable for free ranging?

yes being a heritage breed they don't require much hand, or wing holding. I have some I love the comb, no frostbite. as for flying ability I don't know mine doesn't.

Mine free range every day(I have 2 pullets) and they are ALWAYS the first to greet me when I get home from the grocery store with their grapes. They can fly and mine are very alert. Friendly little things, too.

Of my collection of hens the two Dominiques are favorites. Friendly, they free range everyday and do they cover some ground. They do seem to have personality as well.
