! Pleased you joined us! I've never owned Dominques so I can't answer your question. But I think just about any chicken that is given TLC can become a good pet. You might ask owners of that breed in the thread below. Good luck to you!!

I am trying to convince my parents to get me a Dominique, so I have to figure out if their good pets. Are they friendly?
Dominiques are AWESOME, but then again I am prejudiced....... As was previously states, chickens are flock animals, so i would recommend at least three. Dominique pullets are usually smaller than most large fowl pullets, though a Dominique rooster can get to be good sized. Doms are great layers. They lay a medium-large egg, and will lay through the winter. They are heat tolerant and actually like the cold. During the winter, mine routinely seek out the shade...even when it is only about 20 F in the sun.

Rember that each chicken has a distinct personality, and though generally speaking they are gentle friendly chickens, you can get one (like with ANY breed) that isn't quite as nice or personable as the others. Thats just how it works.

Have fun, and welcome to BYC!
