Are flies a danger to chicks?

Hi all, I have my brooder set up in our garage pretty near to our dumpster. When I open the garage door for some fresh air tons of flies come in and do their thing. Some fly into the brooder too. At first it really freaked the chicks out, but they don't seem to mind as much any more.
But do flies pose a danger to chicks? Could they get diseases from them or anything?

A heavy fly load is not a good thing for chicks, chickens, people, cattle, hogs or anything else. They can and do sometimes transmit diseases that animals would not otherwise be exposed to. Totally eliminating flies is not always very practical, but I would do what I could to alleviate the problem as much as possible.
