I'm a first timer BYCer... I wanted to know if this behavior is ok... Just brought and put then in their new home. Temp is right around 95-100 deg... Looks like they're sleeping.

They should alternately run around and sleep, maybe only for a few minutes at a time. If they're not waking up and running around, I would first try dropping the temp in the brooder, and maybe get some fresh air in there. That may be a little warm, especially if that was before you put the chicks in there. Maybe dip their beaks again to get them drinking better.

If it's just been a little while, maybe they just need to recover from their trip. Check their butts for poopy butt.

Temp should be about 90-95 degrees on the floor of the brooder right under the lamp for the first week.
The rest of the brooder should be cooler.
Sometimes the usual 250 watt heat lamp is way too hot for a small brooder.

Very cool. Thank you! They seem to be doing fine. I've got a 100w Red Halogen light facing straight down into the brooder. Temp right under the light is around 95... Only thing is that, I've got chicks that are a little older then the others... I'm

If there is a cooler part of the brooder that they can go to, they should be fine.
It looks as tho they are a little ways away from 'right under the light', which is where they find it most comfortable.

If they are piled tight together right under the light, they are cold.
If they are scattered as far away form the light as possible, they are too hot.
If they are laying near one another a little away from the light, which is what it looks like in your pic, it's just right.

Knowing the actual temps is good, but watching their behavior is the best indicator.

Perfect! That's all I needed to know! Thanks for your help!
