Our babies squat and shimmy and shake before they poo. It's actually quite cute to watch them. When our hens get older we watch for the roo's to start trying to mate with them. We know then that they are about 2 weeks from starting to lay. If the hens are not around a roo then ours will sometimes squat when another hen passes like they would do for a mating roo. Then if you watch them in the nest box, they will sit for any varied amount of time and just before they lay their egg they will stand in a squat position to lay the egg and then set back down on it.
So they really do do alot of squating.
