I have 2 BOs and 2 RIRs that are now 5 1/2 weeks old. They are in the brooder (garage) at night and pt them out in their cop/run during the day. When I am home, I let them roam the yard.

The problem is at dusk. They come to the back door, making a fuss to go back to their brooder. If i put them into the coop they really start yelling.

I would like them to start living full-time in the coop/run by this weekend. How can I train them to want to stay in the coop??

Hello-

At night, you will have to shut them inside the coop, and then open the door in the morning if you want to let them out. You'll have to do this for a week or so until they get a routine established.

You can always put an enticing treat inside for them to have just before dark......That will help them think their coop is just GREAT!

One of these days, you'll be surprised when they "go to bed" on their own!

Thanks.

I had to jam them into the coop because they didn't want to go in. I gave them their food and water and they fought over one corner of the 2 perches. Calmed down and no peeps until the morning.
