Hi Everyone!
I have 5 call ducks - 3 of them I got in July '17. They turned out to be all males. I then got 2 more in Sept '17. One is defiantly a male the other MAY be a female. I'm not really sure how to tell the difference other then the curled tail.
I have had to keep the ducks in their pen for the last few weeks because we are going through a severe cold snap of -30. Since having them confined, I have noticed the the 3 older ducks pick on the younger ones. Im not sure if this is just a dominance thing or if they are actually instigating a fight.
The 2 young ones are always stand offish and give the 3 other drakes their space. If they get together (such as to eat or drink water), one of the older drakes always nips at the younger ones necks or feathers and shews them away. Do you think this may be dominance? Do you think I should get rid of the one or all of the drakes?
I have also noticed the 2 younger ones are having a hard time standing for longer periods of time. I was thinking of bringing them into our garage and setting up a "hospital" to provide them with some brewers yeast and see if there is any changes...Im not really sure what may be causing the ducks to have weak legs or if it is just cold feet from the cold weather.
Thanks!
