Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie at this and I was wondering if my 6 week old chicks are considered 'feathered out'.
I'd like to put them out in the coop soon with no heat (avg hi/lo is 65/45 here now).
They're in my basement right now with no heat and it stays about 65 down there.

Thanks!!

They're looking pretty good to me

I personally would put them in the coop, but with a heat lamp at night just in case. Good luck!

Look feathered to me.

Last year I had 3 and 4 week olds out with lows of 50F. The coop will stay warmer than night temp and they have each other for warmth. 10 Watts of heat per bird adds up to you having a virtual 60W bulb in the coop. No worries.

Condition them to not have heat for a day or so....I would put them out too. Mine fussed a lot the first night and needed a nightlight. They had a tough time figuring out how to go inside to bed.

Depends on temp outside but they are indeed feathered out!

I would put them out during the day to get use to the temps and learn to "go in" the coop. Once they get the hang of it (took my 6 weekers about 2 days) then they should be fine to stay 24/7.. I put mine out at that age and that amount of feathering with simular temps and they do awesome. Granite the first few nights I was paranoid and would go out and PUT them in the coop at night...
