I had NH Reds when I lived in NH. Hubby and I have retired to Eastern NC and would like to get NH Reds chicks again. Are they the same as ISA Browns? I have seen a description and photos and they look the same to me.

They look completely different maybe you seen a different bird.New Hampshire reds are a heavier bird and are more so an orangish/yellowish/brownish bird with black tail feathers and a few black specks on the neck feathers.Isa brown are a Red and white bird.

Totally different breeds. New Hampshire Reds are an established and APA accepted breed and will breed true generation after generation. Isa Brown are a hybrid and won't breed true.

ISA Browns = lighter weight, better layer, won't breed true
New Hampshire Reds = heavier build, dual purpose, slightly poorer layer, will breed true

Thank you. I had NH Reds so I know what they look like but the photo I saw of ISA Browns for sale looked just like the NH chickens I had. After reading your description, I guess the photo color wasn't very accurate. Thanks for the info.
