Just wondering since Im getting rid of my terrible Barred rock roo, Meaner then EVER! and I hatched 4 red sex links, And Im for sure ones a roo. Should as soon as he gets old enough give him to my ma's friend to butcher when he gets big enough or are they known for being people/ hen friendly?

They're as likely to be mean as hatchery Barred Rocks. . . . I've had a semi-mean one before, and have heard of others being mean or nice. Remember, they're bred for egg production and for the females, nothing more.

I hatched out 6 last year 1 was VERY mean, 4 just a normal type of mean, the biggest one is a good boy and the only one I kept.

Quote:
Very mean= Lunged, and attacked me more then 5 times and draw blood at lest once.
mean= very bad to the hens and tried to attack me 1 or 2 times but a after getting flung a crossed the coop that ended that.

The rooster I currently have is "very mean"

and im guessing I dont want a sex link roo

I ordered ALL pullets from Ideal in October. I received a Gold Sex Link that turned out to be a roo. He is GREAT with me but he is so MEAN to the girls. I cannot stress the MEAN part. He pecks and chases them. I also got a Production Red roo and he nice. I had hoped he was a she.
