Are scarecrows an effective deterrent to red tail hawk?

[Bird Fever]

A red tail hawk has made several attempts the past few days to pick off one from the flock. Same time every morning. Although I have one bantam rooster who's really alert I'm afraid the hawk will catch one of my chickens 'slippin', as they say in the hood. Its war folks. Can a scarecrow make a difference, or should I just keep them locked up in the mornings?

No because a hawk will dive even with you standing there- I read about it happening for someone on BYC awhile back. I have had them hover over my flock many times, thinking about diving even with me standing there.

Heavy knotted netting over the run works great. Think snow load when hanging it if you get snow (I hang mine on the t posts but not the fencing itself). Hawk bounced off it once as it dove.
