Are Self Blue Modern Games born black? *PIC HEAVY*

I just purchased three chicks from a breeder. They're out of a self blue hen, but are pretty black. One is slightly lighter than the others, and actually has some white on her. Are self blues born black, or do you know from the day they hatch? I would also like to convey this information to the breeder, since she has been trying to get get self blues for a while.

Self Blue as in Lavender chicks are NOT Black.. now all blue birds that are blue(Bl/bl+) can have all black chicks, but this chicks wont turn blue over time... some blues can be very dark at hatch too, but not lavender based birds

Just curious... the chicks all have some white on them; one more than the others. What causes that? Does that mean they are birchen, or some other color? Or are they black?

they look Dark blue to me.. I had a female chick like that, and she mature to a a charcoal mate black looking bird, she was from a blue x black cross

They are out of a birchen rooster.

I have never heard that term before. Would you mind explaining it to me?
