i got given an itty bitty tiny serama roo over the weekend and his comb keeps turning an awful bluey/purple colour. the previous owner said he is just stressed but it hasnt gotten any better in 2 days.
could it be caused by something more than the stress of moving??

I have many Seramas. Yes as babies they tend to get more stressed. However I've not noticed this in adults at all. I also haven't seen any instance of combs turning bluish purple. That almost sounds like an oxygen problem. Is he breathing ok? Does he have a stuffy nose? Might not hurt to give him some VetRX or something similar for a few days just to be on the safe side.

I don't know about chickens but people with heart problems can sometimes have blue fingernail beds. I would think it was poor circulation. Hope you get some help soon.

I've never had this happen with my seramas. How cold is it where you are? Could it be frostbite starting? Hope he turns out ok!

**Might want to post pics of it - they always make things a little easier.

one of my seramas roos that i got form a breeder had that but i gave him half a tylenol and he was fine after a few days but keep him inside at night hope that help

I have a little serama in my flock and he's been just fine this winter in an unheated coop in the upper midwest and we've had temps here of -15 degrees F at night. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr

So I kinda doubt it's the temperature, although you do want to avoid having the coop too drafty, but still need some ventilation.
