Are Silkies hard to care for?

I have owned Silkies and they integrated fine with my standard size flock. I had to keep the areas around their eyes trimmed so that they could see. They tend to be a less hardy breed. I lost both of my girls in less than 2 years. They are adorable, but i will not own anymore.

I love my silkies and they seem fine with my other chickens. The only problem I’ve had is they are not as hardy or disease resistant as my standard breeds are. Out of my 5 silkies I’ve lost one to what I suspect to be mareks and another one currently suffering from it.

That could be neurological from head injury and not Mereks..

Yeah that’s what i was hoping, everything appears to be mareks though unfortunately (at least with the last one that passed) the current one suffering is a cockerel and he’s still going so I’m hoping he’ll make it.

I’m sorry. I lost 3 chickens to what I think is mareks. Praying you don’t loose anymore.
